"If I had," Alain said slowly, "do you think we would have lost Jamie?"
Bert continued to stare for a moment, but there was a grin slowly spreading across his face, even with the pain and the gutshot and Jamie lying dead beside them. "Well," he said, reloading and cocking his guns. "I guess this is our miracle. Come on. There's still an army out there."
And one woman, even one woman screaming like a banshee and fighting like a demon, was going to take a hell of a long time to take down thousands of men.
