Bert was leaning against the top of the wall with Jamie at his side, the two of them passing a lit smoke between them and staring out at the army, which was no longer just on the horizon but well on their way to the city walls.
"Ten minutes," he said, turning to face her. "Maybe fifteen, but no more. You don't want to be here when they come." Taking one last drag of the cigarillo, he passed it back to Jamie and straightened up to limp over to her. He wasn't using a crutch any more, but his leg was still splinted, and it clearly caused him a lot of pain. "Did you get what you needed out of Al?"
