It wasn't bullshit. Roland and Nariko had the right to look out for one another as surely as Cuthbert would do the same for Roland. As Kaine moved up to join them she couldn't help thinking, ironically, that jealousy was an unbearable monster to wrestle with. Even if Roland hadn't left Bert might still be upset at Roland's mourning, however brief it may or may not have been. In any case she stuffed down the mild irritation at his words, considered it payback for earlier.

Kaine hesitated, but tapped Alain on the shoulder, "Could I speak with you for a moment? Alone."
Since Bert didn't have it in him to be anything but overtly emotional - which was fine, she understood, but Kaine wasn't afforded even that much - she could only hope that another member of their group might be a tad more logical.
