She stared at him with both brows raised, utterly disbelieving. Nothing that she had said was particularly complimentary. The difference was that, in Hambry, it sounded as if Bert had helped Roland not be an unbelievable idiot, and he was important in a battle that sounded unbelievable to her ears. Kaine just sort of tagged along with everything. But she knew better than to argue too much and accepted that well meant punch (because there really could be such a thing).

"I guess those are fair terms." And she didn't think they were logical, not in the least. But if it helped him understand why she saw him a certain way, Kaine would push her own self-doubt aside. "Both important maybe-heroes together, then."

It sounded so ... Ridiculous, so why did she keep smiling?
