Again, he was silent for a moment. He was bad at tenderness, but his voice was nonetheless almost soft when he did speak. "There'll be water if God wills it. I know you hate to hear it put that way, but it's no less true. Kaine may come back with us, or she may not. Maybe this is where your paths split. But if it is, then there's nothing you can do about it by worrying." He pulled away a little, one hand on her shoulder, to meet her eyes. "If this place is more important to her than what the two of you share, then she'll stay no matter what you say or do. It hurts, but all you'll do by lingering on the thought is to draw out the pain." He shook his head. "Though it seems to me that, between you and Bert, she's got plenty binding her to our path as it is."
