"I hadn't thought that far," he said, quite frankly, and took a couple of steps towards her, holding out one hand as if she were a frightened animal. His eyes met hers, holding them, and he raised one eyebrow. He could have said some of the things that felt like they were needed: talk to me, let me hold you, don't leave me alone. But words had never been his strong suit. If she couldn't read it in his face and his manner, then it was probably because she wasn't in a place to, and telling her would do no good either.
