Cuthbert, whose hands had gone automatically to his guns, relaxed away from them with a slightly sheepish little laugh. "You mean I had the chance for a perfectly good terrifying blood pact, and I let it slip? Damn. I miss all the fun." He looked up at the Wrangler, pulling a face. The closest he'd come to anything like that before was in children's stories and old songs. Seeing it in front of him was, at the same time, fascinating and like a kick in the chest. Might as well put up a big sign saying Nothing is as it was.
Shaking off the thought as best he could, he looked over to Kaine again. "So, about this cannibal blood pact," he said, lightly. "Any chance I can persuade Alain to go back and take it? Because you have to admit, the look on his face would be priceless."
