After going through the process of saying it all Kaine realized that, well, he probably wasn't so serious about that part. Anyway. Kaine looked up at him once, but then turned her eyes back to the grass between her legs. He said he liked her and despite the reserved expression she wore the words had slid under her skin. He liked her. So at least they could keep being friends. It made her much happier than it should have in a decidedly not platonic manner, but she would keep that to herself. That was only fair.
"It's okay, I really forgive you. Or whatever the proper response to that phrase is supposed to be." Her smile appeared briefly even though she hadn't been trying to joke, it just felt as if there was enough room in her for that, now.
"... I should have asked them to get me the noodles." Because she wasn't touching the 'not going back' topic specifically because Bert wouldn't poke it, either, and that was probably for the best.
